Details of this update and their benefits to you

| Web content filtering support | New |
A new NetBox module is now available to support real-time web content filtering to provide versatile web content and bandwidth management. This module provides complete and flexible control over the web experience available to users behind the NetBox. Policies can be applied to prevent access to inappropriate, productivity wasting or potentially offensive web material. These can be flexibly applied to specific times of the day or week and/or to particular parts of the internal network. The module features a patent pending Content Classification Engine (CCE) which models Internet traffic in real-time as it passes through the network, with no measurable impact on the user's experience. Real-time content classification compliments an extensive database of hand-categorised URLs. Filtering by content-type (MIME) and file extension is also fully supported. Use of high-bandwidth content including streaming media, audio (MP3) and video feeds and images can be managed to conserve valuable network resources. To avoid the unnecessary overhead of maintaining enormous local lists of URL classifications, the Web Content Management employs an innovative Classification Retrieval Architecture. Definitive content categorisations, not already locally cached, are fetched automatically as needed from the closest Authoritative Classification Node. Please contact your NetBox reseller for more information on this module. |
| NTP time server | New | The NetBox now comes with an Network Time Protocol (NTP) server which can supply precision time information to compatible hosts. The server requires no configuration: simply point your NTP client software at the NetBox to sync to it. The NetBox uses several time sources to obtain highly accurate time data. Microsoft Windows XP comes with a built-in NTP client and clients are available for most platforms. |
| SMTP warning settings | Enhancement | It is now possible to configure the time before bounce messages are sent by the NetBox when SMTP delivery is failing or has failed. These settings can be found under Configuration | SMTP in the NetBox web interface. |
| Major internal updates and optimisations | Enhancement | Large scale updates to the software libraries used internally by the NetBox have been done. This improves future expansion options, security features and overall system performance. Additionally, many optimisations have been made to the Network Monitoring feature and the internal configuration management code which will improve performance over for a variety of NetBox features. |
| Network monitoring fix | Fix | A recent upgrade of the database system used by the NetBox caused a problem with handling of time zones. This release fixes that problem. After this update is applied you may notice the CPU usage on your NetBox being higher than normal as previously recorded Network Monitoring data is corrected. This is normal and shouldn't impact greatly on actual performance. System load will return to normal after all relevant data is fixed. |
