Details of this update and their benefits to you
- Network Traffic Shaping: Get the most out of your Internet link and
have precise control over how your network bandwidth is allocated. The NetBoxes
powerful traffic shaping functionality is now available at a fraction of the
cost of traditional bandwidth management appliances. Bandwidth can be shaped
according to virtually any part of a network packet including IP address,
protocol, ports or Type-Of-Service bits. Traffic shaping can be applied to
any NetBox network interface and a variety of management strategies are available.
NetBox traffic shaping makes it easy to:- prevent large emails from affecting web browsing;
- give interactive applications the priority they need;
- give more bandwidth to users who need it;
- get better performance from and extended the useful lifetime of congested Internet links.
- Local DNS: Define master and slave internal DNS zones for your network through a simple-to-use, comprehensive web interface. This makes it easy to host internal DNS domains or to have internal versions of externally visible domains for redirection purposes. The interface for this feature can be found under Administration | Local DNS.
- Office to Office VPN Web Interface: A web interface is now available to allow you to easily configure VPN's between NetBoxes. The new interface allows you to transfer configuration information between NetBoxes, thereby automating much of the configuration process. This means you don't need to manually enter configuration settings at each site. An entire VPN can be set up in minutes. This functionality can be found under Configuration | NetBox VPN in the web interface.
- Automatic Email Request On Link Up: The NetBox will now automatically request that any queued mail be sent from all secondary mail servers for domains it is hosting. This is done as the Internet link comes up and is useful if the Internet link has been down for some time. All queued email will now be delivered to the NetBox immediately, with no intervention required by you.
- New External POP3 Retrieval Settings: It is now possible to configure the collection interval and network timeout for external POP3 retrieval attempts. Additionally the default network timeout has been increased from 60 to 180 seconds. The new settings can be found under Configuration | Advanced in the NetBox web interface.
- Display Of Current NetBox Firmware Version: The home page of the NetBox web interface now shows the currently installed firmware release and the date of the last firmware update. This is useful for determining the status of firmware updates for a particular NetBox.
- User Configurable PPPoE Authentication Method: The NetBox can now use both CHAP and PAP for authenticating PPPoE Internet links. Previously only CHAP was supported. This setting can be found under Configuration | Connection | Authentication method in the web interface (will only appear if the use of a PPPoE Internet link has been configured).
Note
Some items mentioned above are only available on your NetBox if you have purchased certain feature modules. If you would like further information about these modules don't hesitate to contact your NetBox reseller.
