Technical White Paper - 802.1X Pass-Through Authentication

Organisations are increasingly providing Wi-Fi access to managed networks for devices such as smartphones, tablets and laptops. These devices may be supplied and managed by the organisation or increasingly may be user-owned or ‘bring your own’ (BYO) devices. In these managed networks, internet authentication is utilised to ensure compliance with internet usage policies.

These policies include monitoring and reporting of internet usage, bandwidth quota management, web content filtering, and real-time moderation and management of Web 2.0 / social media applications. Network managers are also regularly required to provide guest access to the internet whilst maintaining network security policies.
